Bioéconomie : contributions aux objectifs de réduction des émissions de gaz à effet de serre et prospectives

Abstract : France and the European Union have recently developed strategies to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The bioeconomy is presented as a sector to be mobilized and developed to achieve this goal. The objective of the report is to determine the contributions of the sustainable bioeconomy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. This work is based on the conceptual modelling of the sustainable bioeconomy at ADEME as well as on a comparative analysis of foresight work in which one or several greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction scenario(s) are constructed. Numerous bioeconomic levers exist to reduce GHG emissions in the territories and it is the scenarios that mobilize the most that succeed in further reducing GHGs. However, this work has shown that there are limits to the development of the sustainable bioeconomy. Indeed, it is necessary to take into account that biomass is not an infinite resource and to reconcile all uses of biomass (food, energy, materials), while preserving the environment as much as possible. It is also necessary to ensure that the environments that store a lot of carbon (agricultural soils, forests, natural meadows) have a sufficiently large surface area on our territories and that they are in good ecological condition to be able to compensate for our EGES.
