La blessure des ischio-jambiers chez les sprinteurs : enquête sur les facteurs de risque auprès des sprinteurs français

Abstract : In track and field, hamstring strain is a common injury, especially among sprinters. Indeed, hamstrings are the most used in the race cycle and they are particularly vulnerable at the terminal swing phase and early stance phase. Method : based on a literature analysis of risk factors, a survey on athletes' habits with regard to hamstring injuries was developed and sent to sprinters by social networks and mailing lists of athletic clubs. Results : out of 208 responses analyzed, nearly 60% of sprinters had already suffered of hamstring injury and 2/3 of them had suffered at least one recurrence. Regarding risk factors, it appears that increasing age, male gender, injury history and a high level of practice increase this injury. On the other hand, behaviours such as stretching or prevention protocols, sleep, hydration or warm-up could not be linked with hamstring injury. Discussion : this injury is therefore a big issue in track and field. Knowledge on the running’s biomechanics and associate risk factors allows physiotherapist to best adapt their rehabilitation to injured sprinters, in order to limit recurrence but also to optimize prevention protocols.
