L’intérêt de l’hypnose dans la prise en charge de patients douloureux chroniques en masso-kinésithérapie : une étude qualitative

Abstract : Approximately 30% of the French population suffers from chronic pain and physiotherapy recommendations often seem inefficient to relieve their pain. In parallel, efficacy of hypnosis to decrease pain has been shown in several studies. This qualitative study aims to give an overview of the use of hypnosis throughout the medical care of patients suffering from chronic pains in physiotherapy. Six semi directive interviews were conducted with private practice and public sector physiotherapists using hypnosis throughout this type of medical care. Results exhibit that hypnosis improves medical care of chronic pain by increasing comfort and the patient’s capacity to achieve self-empowerment, that it allows the decrease of pain thanks to the use of self-hypnosis, that it is beneficial to physiotherapist and develops therapeutic alliance. This study highlights the interest of hypnosis in the management of chronic pain. However, hypnosis has some contraindications and some limitations such as hypnotisability and a potential risk of dependence. Furthermore, this study does not allow the generalization of the outcomes. That is why we propose the elaboration of questionnaires directed to more physiotherapist in order to obtain quantitative results.
