La stratégie européenne de développement des biocarburants : réorientation vers des biodiesels avancés issus de déchets et de résidus alimentaires : opportunités et risques

Abstract : Considering that Europe is pursuing a greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal to meet carbon neutrality by 2050 (European Commission, 2018a), it is relevant to question European Biofuel Development policy. This essay presents the evolution of the European Biofuel Development policy and shows the opportunities and limits of the use of waste and residues for advanced biodiesels. In this document, we will first present the European policies made to support 1st generation biodiesels as well as the limits of these biodiesels. Then, we will focus on the environmental, sanitary and socioeconomic interest of using Used Cooking Oils and Animal Fats into advanced biodiesels. We will present the support policies establish. Finally, we will highlight the limits of these advanced biofuels. This essay aims to escort the discussion on the use of biofuels as a lever to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector.
