Outils d'aide au pilotage de l'arrosage et pratiques d'adaptation des golfs dans un contexte de raréfaction de la ressource en eau

Abstract : Every summer, France suffers from more and more droughts, which have become longer and longer over the years. At issue: climate change. These droughts have led many regions to restrict water use in order to preserve a water resource weakened by human activities. Water is the basis of certain economic activities. This is the case for golf courses, for which it is a necessity to keep their turf alive. Thus, it is essential for the sustainability of these structures to act to preserve this very important resource. We can therefore ask ourselves what decision support tools and maintenance methods do French golf courses use to adapt their watering systems to preserve a fragile water resource in a context of climate change? The aim of this paper is to show that golf courses have been now concerned for some time about the need to preserve water resources and that they do not hesitate to install all kinds of environmental sensors to adapt their watering as closely as possible to the needs of the turf. These sensors are real tools to help control watering, avoiding over-watering and promoting water savings if they are used properly and their data is properly analysed. We will also see that the installation of the watering system, the choice of grasses and substrate, as well as lawn maintenance techniques also play an important role in water consumption.
