La goutte : nouveautés en 2020 et particularités en Polynésie Française

Abstract : Gout is a pathology that has been on the rise in recent years. Available data on compliance of patients with gout, treatment efficacy, and surveys of physicians all indicate that the management of this disease still needs to be improved. The objective of this thesis is to gather the data necessary for this reform by synthesizing current knowledge on the disease: its history, pathophysiology, symptoms, risk factors, clinical history, diagnosis, complications, epidemiological data, latest recommendations and available treatments; and to focus on the disease in French Polynesia, where the prevalence is much higher than average. This difference is linked to genetic predispositions and the eating habits of the Polynesian which favor the occurrence of this disease. Patients there are often polypathological with a strong preponderance of associated diseases: obesity and type 2 diabetes which reach record rates in the Pacific triangle. Hypertension and kidney failure are also often present. It is the duty of the dispensing pharmacist to intervene to support patients in their health, using all the means at his disposal to improve their adherence to hygieno-dietary rules and treatments.
