Liberté et obéissance aux lois : de la réflexion philosophique à la classe

Abstract : This master thesis focuses on the practice of philosophical discussions in the civic education program. The planned experiment aimed to work with CE2-CM1 students on the notions of freedom, obedience to laws and democracy. Indeed, these themes have a primordial place in the classroom and are necessary for a climate favourable to learning. The philosophical discussion is a logical part of the learning of these concepts thanks to its democratic objective. The planned experiment was not finally carried out because of the particular context of the closure of schools following Covid-19. It is therefore not possible to analyze the effectiveness of the debates. However, other tools also drawn from cooperative pedagogies have been used in the classroom. Among them, the student council made it possible to work on the democratic management of exchanges and deliberation. The practice of these councils has produced interesting initial results in terms of students' understanding of the importance of rules and how democracy works.
