Le positionnement assis des jeunes enfants présentant une paralysie cérébrale par l'ergothérapeute : quels impacts sur leur participation occupationnelle ?

Abstract : Introduction: Cerebral Palsy is the most common motor disability among children,it affects 1,800 newborns each year. It causes many movement and postural disorders which interfere with activities in a sitting position. The study aimed to understand how the occupational therapist can promote the participation in the occupations of everyday life when is studying his seated positioning. Methods: A qualitative approach was used, and eight occupational therapists participated in this study. Interviews were examined thanks to a longitudinal analysis and then with a cross-sectional analysis. The collected data were also analyzed in relation to the model of human occupation. Results: This study showed that, with his specific features on occupations, his holistic view of child and the consideration of daily environment in the positioning project, the occupational therapist can promote the involvement of young children with cerebral palsy. In collaboration with the parents,it was important to offer tailored and diversified adaptations to the child. Conclusion: Offering equipment adjusted to the environment, the lifestyle and the interests of each children, the occupational therapists play an essential role in the seated positioning for occupations. This study can develop a tool to assess child’s participation, taking account into elements highlight of the study.
