Cohérence des interventions médecins-orthophonistes autour du patient aphasique

Abstract : Speech and language therapists and general practitioners are two key professionals in the rehabilitation of post-stroke aphasia. However, their collaboration is limited and there are few interactions between them. This underscores the need for effective communication through enhanced collaboration. The aim of this work is to describe the interactions between speech and language therapists and general practitioners in Gironde, and to identify the key points to be improved in order to optimize the communication between these two professionals in primary and ambulatory care who take care of the aphasic patient. This work targets the profession of speech and language therapists. We interviewed speech and language therapists who had taken care of aphasic patients following a stroke in 2017 and who had been hospitalized at the UNV of Bordeaux University Hospital. They were asked to complete an online questionnaire. We obtained 28 participations. We then carried out a descriptive analysis of the interactions between speech therapists and general practitioners. A lack of communication between these two health professionals has been highlighted, with communication that does not fulfil to the expectations of either speech therapists or general practitioners. Indeed, the latter find the speech therapists' reports too long and too technical. As for the speech and language therapists, they strongly regret the indifference of GPs towards their transmissions and would like more exchanges. Collaboration between speech therapists and general practitioners is important to improve the care of the aphasic patient. It could be enriched by adapting the speech and language therapy report and by interprofessional training.
