Entraînement aux habilités sociales dans les troubles du spectre de l’autisme sans déficience intellectuelle : recueil des situations sociales d’intérêt et des difficultés ressenties : une étude qualitative

Abstract : Social skills group interventions (SSGI) seems to moderately improve social communication in autism spectrum disorders without intellectual deficiency (ASD-WID). To our knowledge, the development of existing SSGI tends not to question patients’ needs in terms of specific social interactions to consider or difficulties encountered in such interactions. To question patients on social interactions perceived as problematic and to question which difficulties are encountered in such interactions. Fourteen patients with ASD-WID were included in a monocentric qualitative study which took place in the Centre Référent de Réhabilitation psychosociale et de Remédiation Cognitive of the Centre Hospitalier Alpes-Isère in Grenoble, France. Data were collected through 3 focus groups, fully transcribed and analyzed using thematic discourse analysis methodology with the N-Vivo 12 pro software. Sentimental relationships, the use of means of communication and the disclosure of ASD diagnosis represent capital needs to people with ASD-WID. Social cognition impairments, the lack of efficient compensatory strategies, exhaustion at stake in contexts in which social interactions linger or come one after another, sensory overload and unsolicited social demands represent major issues during social interactions for people with ASD-WID. Needs in terms of specific social interactions and difficulties encountered during these interactions, not or partially covered in existing SSGI, were highlighted by participants in this study. These data could lead to the development of more efficient SSGI for patients with ASD-WID.
