État des lieux de la consommation d’alcool chez les étudiants à l’Université de La Réunion en 2019-2020

Abstract : Introduction: alcohol consumption is a major public health problem in France and even more in Reunion Island. 49,000 alcohol-related deaths per year. Students are also affected by this alcohol consumption, witch even if legal, causes many pathologies and leads to many risks including drunk driving. The main objective of this study was to provide an epidemiological description of alcohol consumption among students registered at the Reunion Island University in 2019-2020. Method: this was a descriptive, cross-sectional, multi-center epidemiological survey, by online anonymous self-questionnaires (email and facebook), carried out in 2020. Exposure to high-risk or favorable to alcohol consumption dependance was assessed by the FACE questionnaire. Results: 1,770 students from Reunion Island had answered this questionnaire. We excluded 3 for non-consent. 83% of students had already consumed alcohol. 30,4% of students had high-risk or addictive consumption according to the FACE questionnaire. 13,6% of them admitted having driven under the influence of alcohol in the past, and more than half have been in a vehicle driven by an alcoholic driver. Conclusion: alcohol consumption among students from reunion island was relatively high among the student population, but less than the metropolitan’students. The main risk associated with alcohol is drunk driving with many deaths on the Reunion Island’s roads. Students are sensitive to awareness campaigns, but we must strengthen the current prevention among the youngest and persevere in innovation in order to reach as many people as possible.
