Le sport peut-il changer de sexe à l’école maternelle ? L’influence de l’école sur les stéréotypes de genre dans les pratiques sportives

Abstract : Since their development, sports are the place for the expression of hegemonic masculinity and their openness to women is very recent. Sport seems to be a good environment for the reproduction of gender stereotypes which are present in society The aim of the school is to offer all pupils an equal chance in learning and to enable them to overcome their social condition. As such, it has to fight against gender stereotypes by a conscious and voluntary action. The objective of this study is to observe the evolution of the representations of the gender of physical activities among very young children (kindergarten) according to the active role or not of the school in this struggle. Sport and language sessions were therefore conducted on a test group. The results observed at the end of the study highlighted the importance of the role of the school in lowering the stereotypical evolution of representations, if a specific attention is paid to it. Otherwise, it is a perpetuation of stereotypes that is observed. The importance of teacher training on the subject is therefore indisputable.
