Retour d’expérience des maîtres de stage des universités de la subdivision Océan Indien ayant accueilli un interne de phase socle en stage ambulatoire de niveau 1 depuis la réforme de 2017

Abstract : Introduction: The 2017’s reform of the 3rd cycle of medical studies modified the level 1 ambulatory internship for general practitioners’ trainers working in the Indian Ocean subdivision, who now welcome interns during their 1st or 2nd semester. This study aimed to analyze their feedback. Method: A qualitative study inspired by grounded theory was applied using semi structured interviews with general practitioners’ trainers who have been teaching for at least three years in the Indian Ocean and who hosted at least one intern of 1st or 2nd semester from November 2017 to June 2020 on a level 1 ambulatory internship. Results: Eleven interviews were carried out. The general practitioners’ trainers had a positive experience of their practice, thanks to a more valuated pedagogic role due to the welcoming of rookie interns who were less used to hospital practices. The supervision had become more time-consuming though, as the pedagogical supervision of the first two phases took longer. The internship objectives varied: autonomy was sometimes a priority when others preferred initiatory objectives. They did not use teaching tools and taught intuitively. They regretted the lack of feedback on their practice. Some were unaware of the reform and did not identify any change. Conclusion: This study showed satisfaction of general practitioners’ trainers in exercising their role since the reform, which has however become more time-consuming. Defining new objectives and adapted teaching tools would improve their experience while standardizing their teaching.
