Évaluation de l'impact de la variation du poids au cours du programme multidisciplinaire d'Education Thérapeutique du Patient en pré-Chirurgie Bariatrique sur l'efficacité et les bénéfices de la chirurgie à 1 an post-opératoire

Abstract : Background : In parallel with the increase in prevalence of obesity, the practice of bariatric surgery has developed. Preoperative predictors factors of a good response to bariatric surgery are multiple and still need to be identified. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of weight variation during a multidisciplinary preparation program (MPP) for bariatric surgery on the effectiveness at 1-year after surgery. Method : It was a retrospective, monocentric study (University Hospital of Saint-Pierre at Réunion Island), uncontrolled and non-randomized. We recruited patients who had integrated the MPP for bariatric surgery from October 2016 to April 2018 and who had been operated with a follow-up of 1-year post-surgery before March 2020. The patients were separated into 2 groups according to the weight change during the MPP (group 0 = weight gain; group 1 = weight maintenance or loss). Results : 105 was integrated into MPP ant 83 was analyzed. The loss of excess weight at 1-year post-surgery weight was comparable in both groups (64.27% in the group 0 vs 69.10% in the group 1; p=0.34). Group 1 had a lower loss muscle mass compared to group 0 but the difference was not significant (11.94% vs 17.63%, respectively; p=0.30). Conclusion : Just the weight variation in preoperative does not predict the effectiveness of the bariatric surgery. MPP membership cannot be judged only on the change in weight during the program.
