L'édition critique indépendante : le renouvellement du genre critique (2005-2017)

Abstract : This research thesis has been written within the Paris-Nanterre University’s Book Industry master course (Publishing specialization). It focuses on critic and independent publishing, and more particularly the renewal of the critic genre. Supposing the existence of a publishing houses’ generation called “Nuit Debout” (named by a social movement which took place in 2016 mainly in France), whom a corpus of ten publishing houses created between 2005 and 2016 are echoing, it studies the working of a critic and independent publishing house. It puts in parallel a figured analysis of catalogues and the editorial image reflected by publishers’ speeches. Within a new social situation and an editorial overproduction, what are the “critic books” today? What is their place within the editorial market? What about the publishers’ engagement and its expression?
