Medical affairs: its role and added value within pharmaceutical industry

Abstract : This project aims to describe the current role of the department of Medical Affairs (MA) and its various links with external and internai stakeholders by: conducting a literature review to highlight its growing raie in the face of major environmental changes in recent decades, and explaining how Medical Affairs can become a real advantage for the pharmaceutical industry by estimating the current and future value of Medical Affairs within the industry through the achievement of interviews, an online survey and a case study. Qualitative data has shown that the distinguishing advantage of MA is its unique scientific expertise within the pharmaceutical industry bath internally with the marketing department and externally with healthcare professionals. This study also demonstrated that the quantitative added value of Medical Affairs is difficult to estimate. Medical Affairs has taken a central place in the pharmaceutical industry. New environmental changes will continue to shape its raie, such as digitalization, patient-centricity and the generation of real-life data, while increasing the number of interlocutors. Assessing its added value remains a challenge that can be solved, in part, by artificial intelligence.
