Diversité des QTL et haplotypes de résistance à Aphanomyces euteiches chez le pois protéagineux (Pisum sativum)

Abstract : Aphanomyces euteiches is the most damaging soilborne pea pathogen in France. Breeding of resistant varieties combining a diversity of partial resistance QTL is a promising strategy due to recent research achievements. The objective of this study was to analyze the diversity of QTL and haplotypes for resistance to A. euteiches in new sources of resistance in peas. A QTL analysis was performed in the Advanced Backcross population Eden (susceptible) x E11 (resistant), genotyped using 993 SNP markers and phenotyped for resistance in controlled conditions and in the field. A whole genome association analysis (GWA) in the pea Aphanomyces collection (Desgroux et al., 2016) was updated using 1,850 additional SNP markers, including 440 SNPs common to the Eden x E11 population analysis. A total of 14 and 28 resistance QTL were identified by QTL and GWA analysis, respectively, validating most of the previously reported QTL. No new consistent resistance QTL was detected in the Eden x E11 population. A high diversity of haplotypes was identified at 11 consistent haplotype blocks in 14 new sources of resistance present in the Aphanomyces collection. An accumulation of favorable haplotypes at these 11 regions was confirmed in the most resistant lines of the collection. This study provides new SNP markers and new haplotypes associated with resistance QTL, of potential interest for improving resistance levels to A. euteiches in future pea varieties.
