Prélèvement des plumes des grands rapaces par les chasseurs-cueilleurs du Paléolithique moyen à la transition du Paléolithique récent : approche expérimentale

Abstract : Birds are not only a source of food, they also have other raw material resources such as feathers, tendons and claws. The use of large raptors by the Prehistoric population in the Middle Paleolithic and Transition periods has been a subject of growing interest over the last ten years. However, the available reference systems are poorly developed for interpreting the modifications observed on archaeological bones. This is the case of the traces resulting from the removal of wing feathers. An experiment was carried out with ten specimens (Accipitriformes and Strigiformes) and unretouched lithic tools. The aim was to record the cutting striations and the gestures made on the different bones (associating the striation with the gesture). Studies have shown that there could be a difference between the different birds, between the bones affected and between their portions and faces.
