Processus et facteurs de l’empathie des étudiants en quatrième année de médecine lors de jeux de rôles de formation à la relation thérapeutique

Abstract : Introduction: clinical empathy has many dimensions, its positive effect on doctor-patient relationship has been proved and its education is effective to develop students empathy, especially with peer play-roles. Our study aim to explor process and factors of empathy for four year medical students during peer play-roles. Method : a qualitative mono-centered study has been setted up with students and teachers. Students were in four year of medical school at the University of Paris Descartes during year 2017-2018, were up to 18, had participate to the module of training, spoke french and were consentents. Teachers should have teach during the module of training and be volunteers. The analysis has been conducted in double rating, with data triangulation, by three levels descriptive, thematic and interpretative, and matricial. Results: twelve students and eight teachers responded to the study. Five process contributing to construct the different dimensions of empathy has been identified: affects, reflexivity, identification, subjectivation, transfert from theory to practice. Four factors modulating empathy, negatively and positively, has emerged: the pedagogic framework, the institution, the student, being watched. Conclusion: empathy dimensions seem to be developped by five process durin peer play-roles. This might allow to built strategies and pedagogic accompanying tools for teachers.
