Santé des femmes : pratique des maîtres de stage universitaires de la Faculté de Médecine de Nice : étude descriptive

Abstract : Background: the holistic care of the General Practitioner, and the decrease of Gynaecologists, give him a major role in Women’s health care. During the medical internship, following a Women’s health ambulatory internship is an opportunity to learn in conditions close to the future work. At the University of Nice Faculty of Medicine, it is possible to follow an ambulatory internship but it is a marginal offer at the moment. In order to improve the ambulatory internship in Women’s health offer in our Faculty, a specific knowledge of the GP trainee’s supervisors from our subdivision in this field is necessary. Purpose: to describe the GP trainee’s supervisors practice at the University of Nice Faculty of Medicine in Women’s health care. Methods: quantitative and descriptive survey which was based on a questionnaire sent to 187 GP trainee’s supervisors from the medical school at the University of Nice. Web-based anonymous self-questionnaire. Results : the response rate was 66,3%. Only 14,2% never had to carry out a gynaecological examination. A majority of General Practitioners carried out screening and prevention examination acts. Clinical breast palpation, prescription for mammography screening, HPV vaccines and contraception, STIs & STDs help and advice and menopause management, are all widely common in the practice. Technical procedures are rarely carried out, except Cervical screening (smear test). Conclusion : our study confirms that Women’s health care is common practice for GP trainee’s supervisors. Moreover, 25 of those practitioners would like to be certified in Women’s health. Various lines of thoughts have been highlighted in order to increase the number of ambulatory internships in our Faculty. This development of the capacities of training would offer interns in our subdivision the opportunity to follow a third ambulatory internship, in order to build and develop post-training skills and refine their professional projects.
