L'activité théâtrale à l'école primaire : une voie créative pour le développement des interactions en langues vivantes

Abstract : Interacting in a foreign language is a complex phenomenon, mobilizing both our bodies and our emotions. Learning a language cannot be done seated behind a desk since the language needs to be embodied so that the learners feel the urge to express themselves and access to its meaning. The practice of theatre can enable the performance of language and help us to connect within, through our actions and emotions. In this memoir, we will analyse the “engagement” of reserved learners in two classrooms in primary school according to different theatrical activities, to know in which condition(s) the act of creating facilitates interactions. We will focus on their interactions to determinate if creating a collective imaginary during the preparation of the scenes develops competences in teamwork and collaboration. Then, we will take into consideration their feelings about this experience thanks to the questionnaires we created, distributed, and gathered. This memoir highlights the way theatre allows children to find pleasure in interaction, in a secure atmosphere, while helping them to become social actors in a diverse society where differences are a strength and not an obstacle.
