Explorer le choix d'un accouchement sans analgésie péridurale

Abstract : Background: Today, epidural analgesia in labour has become very popular. But some women prefer to avoid it. Methods: The objective of this study was to explore the choice to give birth without epidural analgesia. A descriptive and interpretative study was realized in two surgeries in Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six pregnant women. Results: The meeting women are very involved during pregnancy to be prepared for giving birth without epidural analgesia. They are aware of the labour pain and they prepare themselves to deal with it. For many women, the partner continuous support is very important. Discussion: The different motivations of the choice to give birth without epidural analgesia in this study and scientific literature are similar. The women imagine different ways to handle with pain. According to the Haute Autorité de Santé, most of them are conceivable as non pharmacological pain relief methods. Conclusion: The choice to give birth without epidural analgesia is related to the wishes to live totally the labour, with confidence in physiology. The partner help is important but uneasy to set up. It could be interesting to increase his expertise for better involvement.
