Attente des femmes victimes de violences conjugales envers leur médecin généraliste : étude AVIC-MG dans le département du Finistère

Abstract : The fight against domestic violence (DV) is a major public health issue. In France 10% of women are victim of spousal abuse in France. General practitioners have an essential role for the detection and the support of DV’s victims. Since 2019, the screening for intimate partner abuse is recommended by HAS, however it seldom is carried out by general practitioners. The main objective of the AVIC-MG national study is to observe if women experiencing DV who visit specialized organizations would like to be asked about it by their general practitioner. The second objective is to describe the characteristics of their general practitioner appointments in primary care for the last 12 months. Research methods : transversal descriptive study made between December 2019 and September 2020 in the Finistère department, with a 13 questions self-questionnaire. The target population was adult women victims of DV visiting in specialized organizations, reading et understanding French language. Results : 21 questionnaires have been analyzed from 7 associations. 80,95% of participants would have liked to be asked about DV by their practitioner in primary care and 82,21% consider that it’s their role. All of the participants have met with their doctor at least once during the last 12 months, mostly to renew a treatment (80%), related to tiredness (76,47%), sadness (70,59%) or anxiety (68,75%). The screening for DV has been done by the general practitioner in 14,28% of cases. 57,15% of participants themselves raised the issue of DV, and for 28,57% of them, the topic was never discussed during the appointment. Conclusion : DV’s women victims meet their general practitioner and are available for DV spotting within primary care. Victims of our study population are broadly in favor of DV screening by their general practitioner and think that they have a central role to play in their support.
