La construction d’un « patrimoine carcéral » : entre mémoire et résilience. L’exemple des anciennes prisons de Perrache à Lyon

Abstract : The prisons of Perrache (Lyon, France) shut down in 2008 and were supposed to be demolished. Enventually, they have been preserved et a private operation has converted them in a mixed complex of offices, housing and the Catholic University of Lyon. We will try to understand which process have taken place in the preservation and have allowed a heritage vision to emerge through a change of image. This example raises the issue of “prison heritage”, a little-known notion. We will examine which memory-based reluctances, this new heritage category has to face and why they make its recognition so difficult.
