Cancer du sein chez la femme : étude observationnelle prospective des déterminants du maintien de l’activité physique au long cours à travers le dispositif régional IMAPAC (Initier et Maintenir une Activité Physique Adaptée avec un Cancer)

Abstract : Purpose: Short and long-term physical and psychological benefits of physical activity (PA) are well known for breast cancer survivors (BCSs). PA maintenance remains insufficiently understood and needs longitudinal studies assessing its determinants. Methods : The OncoNormandie regional network setted a PA intervention in 2013, consisting in 2 PA sessions of one hour during 3 months through the IMAPAC plan working with clubs and sports associations of the region. A total of 128 BCSs for less than 3 years were included in the study after completing three PA questionnaires at baseline, 3 months and at one year follow-up. Results : Perceived intensity of PA at 3 months (OR= 4,250; p= 0,0362), baseline BMI (OR= 1,099; p= 0,0247) and study level (OR= 1,717; p= 0,0426) appear as determinants of PA maintenance at one year follow-up. Perceived intensity of PA also determines weekly duration of PA independently at one year follow-up. Conclusion: Perceived intensity, at least as moderate, appears in our study as a crucial determinant of PA maintenance. A 3 months supervised PA as the IMAPAC plan allows to reach a PA sufficient intensity to engage a regular PA which remains long-term maintained. Further research is needed to confirm these results.
