EMC : développer au cycle 2 l’engagement pour une écocitoyenneté

Abstract : The major environmental crisis we are currently facing has confirmed the importance of education in promoting sustainable development. Although the subject is covered across the entire school curriculum, the aim of this dissertation is to show the importance of “moral and civic education” (EMC) in ensuring the transition from an intellectual understanding of environmental issues to a commitment to act as a responsible eco-citizen. While philosophical discussions based on a corpus of youth literature serve to foster pupils’ commitment, they do not guarantee that this commitment will outlast their schooldays and continue throughout the rest of their lives. Achieving this goal would require implementing this approach from the earliest age and maintaining it throughout the school career, in a multi- and cross-disciplinary environment, in cooperation with external partners engaged by the school.
