Suivi gynécologique des femmes ménopausées : quelles sont les pratiques des sages-femmes libérales de France ?

Abstract : Objectives: Since the July 2009 “Hôpital Patient Santé Territoire” law, the midwives’ skills have been open to gynecology. If these competences are still limited to physiology, the legislation allows midwives to both practice and prescribe examinations aiming at detecting pathological situations in order to refer patients to a competent doctor. The practice of gynecology by midwives has been studied over years, but the literature concerning the monitoring of menopause remains poor. The purpose of the study is therefore to assess the risks of the liberal midwives’ professional practices in France in France with regard to preventive gynecological monitoring of menopausal women. Materials and method: Descriptive study of 925 liberal midwives practicing in metropolitan France and overseas territories using an online survey distributed by emails to these midwives. Results and conclusion: Nine hundred and twenty-five responses were analyzed. The vast majority of midwives practices preventive gynecology to monitor postmenopausal women. In our study, if most of them feel solicited for this type of monitoring, their practices are not always in line with the applicable recommendations.
