Évaluation de la satisfaction des parents concernant le parcours de soins des nourrissons atteints de plagiocéphalie positionnelle en Bretagne. Partie 2, description du parcours de soins

Abstract : Context: Positional plagiocephaly is common across infants. It’s often minimised by the nursing staff, however worrying for many parents. No guidelines were given about how to handle this deformity, until recently when the French published recommendations. This previous lack of guidelines could lead to mistakes within the positional plagiocephaly care management process. Objectives: The first aim was to assess parents satisfaction regarding their infant’s global care management. Secondly, we observed whether this cranial asymmetry could reduce parental adherence to safe sleeping guidelines. Methods: A quantitative, descriptive and observational study was conducted from May 13th to November 30th 2019, in Ille-et-Vilaine, Morbihan and Côtes-d’Armor. Surveys were made available at general practitioners, paediatricians, and Maternal and child protection offices. They were addressed to parents having infants between 2 and 18 months and showing signs of positional plagiocephaly. Results: A hundred and four surveys were analysed. A majority of parents (69.1 %) were satisfied with their infants’caring process. The unsuitable care follow-up was the main reason for dissatisfaction (86.7 %). Dissatisfaction also came from other challenges encountered during the caring process, such as the initial lack of information, the parents’ feeling of isolation or the delay in being taken care of. Amongst responses about infant sleeping position, 9.8 % used the prone position and 33.7% the side position ; 33.7% was also using non recommended childcare tools. Conclusion: Having a coordinated healthcare staff is identically critical as sharing mutual information about PP and sudden infant death syndrome.
