Dépistage des IST chez les patients âgés de 15 à 25 ans : pratiques des médecins généralistes à la Réunion

Abstract : Introduction: the existing data on sexually transmitted infections (STI) in Reunion are based on activity in screening centres, which is not representative of the population nor the activity in general medicine. The main purpose was to estimate the proportion of STI screening in people under 25 in general practice over one year. The secondary objective was to determine the reasons of screening prescription. Methods: descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective study, which was conducted in 3 general private practices of 6 general practitioners on the island. The sampling was realised by data extraction on computer software, by selecting patients aged 15 to 25 who consulted in one of these practices between October 2018 and October 2019. Results: 1038 patients were included, 63% including women. 21% of patients had a prescription for any STI screening. 36% of the prescriptions were exhaustive: combined prescription of serology (HIV, HBV, HCV, TPHA) and PCR (CT and NG). CT infection was the most frequently STI found (18 PCRs were positive). Prescriptions for STI screening were mostly performed on the presence of clinical signs or after patients’ request (37% and 22% respectively). Conclusion: This study highlights an insufficient proportion of STI screening, compared to national recommendations. Few screenings are prescribed in asymptomatic patients.
