La coupe menstruelle : évaluation des connaissances des médecins généralistes bretons, une étude quantitative

Abstract : We questioned general practitioners in Brittany in order to assess their knowledge of the use of menstrual cups, which are a feminine hygiene protection device under development. Methods: quantitative study using a questionnaire sent to general practitioners in Brittany through the Medical Board and Facebook, the social network. Results: 355 complete replies. Several sub-groups among the doctors who replied can be identified. Female doctors and doctors under the age of 40 appear to be better informed. Despite this, knowledge of the adverse effects of the cups and of their correct use is not sufficient among doctors. Indeed, 50 % acknowledge not having sufficient knowledge to be able to inform their patients. Conclusion: Although still insufficiently informed, general practitioners have a key role to play in informing their patients about the menstrual cup and more generally about feminine hygiene protection. It appears that a majority of doctors who replied are interested in receiving training on the subject in order to improve the care they provide to their patients.
