Influence des représentations socio-culturelles des professionnels de l’enfance sur l’adressage en orthophonie d’enfants de 3 à 6 ans en situation d’interculturalité

Abstract : In their daily practice, childhood professionals' constantly meet with children in intercultural situations. An intercultural situation arises when two or more cultures come together and thus different codes and meanings. This study will analyze the perceptions of childhood professionals experiencing intercultural situations and its effect on referrals to speech and language therapists for language and communication disorders. In order to obtain empirical data, a questionnaire was distributed to childhood professionals, who work directly with children between the ages of 3 and 6 in the region of Pays Foyen, in Southwest France. How is the professional’s work influenced by intercultural situations and socio-cultural representations ? What is the perception on the children they assist ? The analysis showed a strong correlation between the referral practices and the way childhood professionals view children, depending if they are in an intercultural situation or not. Indeed, in view of the results of our study, we have concluded that the referral to speech therapy of children in intercultural situation between the ages of 3 and 6 with language and communication disorders is influenced by the socio-cultural representations of childhood professionals. It is therefore important that professionals be made aware of the notion of interculturalism to have a more specific approach with children in this situation and to support cross-cultural dialogue.
