Master Thesis

La représentation des risques naturels majeurs des bassins versants de La Réunion

Abstract : This master’s thesis deals with the representations of natural risk by populations of three watersheds in La Reunion: the Rainy river, the Mât river and Saint-Gilles ravine. The major risks in these areas are land movements and flooding. In La Reunion, high use of these territories increases the vulnerability for two types of population: inhabitants of these areas subject to risks on one hand and users (tourists and hikers) on the other hand. This vulnerability is characterized by hazard, issue, management and representations of risks. This study wants to prove that there is a mismatch between risk management and its representation. To this end, different methodologies are presented, in particular surveys carried out between 2020 and 2021. In doing so, the study will be able to propose possible solutions to improve this risk management, solutions that involve more effective prevention.
