La conception des costumes de théâtre

Abstract : Stage performances are based on the combination of several types of functions such as acting, directing, sound and lighting, set design and costume design. Costumes are a complex component of plays in that they need to reflect – as a statement or a suggestion – the atmosphere created by the director, the era and the character. Costume designers need to master technical, theoretical and aesthetic skills while being creative enough to match the vision of the director. This dissertation revolves around the role of costume design in the making of a dramatic entity and explores the symbolic and aesthetic status of the costume, the technical aspects of costume design and the various tasks costume designers have to complete.
