Comparaison du concept de genre dans les sociétés française et japonaise à travers le langage

Abstract : France and Japan are, unsurprisingly, two countries that have many differences on many levels. Nevertheless, neither can claim to be free from gender norms that lead to a hierarchical relationship between the sexes in their respective societies. Although this can be observed and studied in many ways, we have chosen to focus on language, which is suspected of participating in this relationship of domination that exists between men and women, as it intervenes in the shaping of a society and its reality. The objective of this study is therefore to demonstrate the responsibility of language in the maintenance and perpetuation of the concept of gender in French and Japanese societies but also to situate its degree of influence. This involved analyzing the gendered markers of each language, which also run differently. Unlike the French language, which represents them in a very concrete way through its syntax, the gendered markers of the Japanese language cannot really be dissociated from social behaviors. In the same way that it would be utopian to consider language as the only factor culpable for gender inequalities, this study also looks at the other potentially responsible elements. Among these, we evoke through a qualitative approach, the behaviors of each member of these societies according, among other things, to their own use of language, without forgetting the role and symbolism of stereotypes in a broad sense but also in relation to the way in which they are transmitted through language. The results of this study tend to show that the variation in the influence of language in the concept of gender in France and Japan depends on the societal structural organization but also on the importance given to social roles and representations of the masculine and feminine by the members of these societies.
