Retentissement d’un programme de renforcement musculaire sur la qualité de vie d’enfants atteints de paralysie cérébrale

Abstract : Aim: the aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of a muscle strengthening programme on the quality of life of children with cerebral palsy, but also on their functional capacity and their muscle function. Method: sixteen children, aged 8 to 18, with cerebral palsy, participated in the study. They were divided into two groups of equal numbers: a control group and an experimental group. The control group continued with their conventional treatment. The experimental group received a 45-minute muscle strengthening session every week during thirteen weeks. At the beginning and at the end of the study, the subjects were tested on their quality of live (Kidscreen-27 questionnaire), their functional capacity (6-minute walk test) and their muscular capacity (functional tests). Results: the results show a significant increase in the performance of the experimental group thanks to the muscle strengthening programme. Indeed, a positive difference was observed between the beginning and the end of the experimentation. An improvement in quality of life was observed, particularly in the “physical activity and health” domain. Conclusion: this study shows the beneficial effects of a muscle strengthening programme on the quality of life, functional capacity and muscle capacity of children with cerebral palsy.
