Abstract : The status of women has never ceased to evolve over the centuries. Women have come together, have set up movements, organizations, committees and conferences to develop their place in society. During the 20th century, their struggle became more and more important as they realized the role they had to play at all levels. They were not just mothers of the homeland, they were women with abilities as remarkable as those of men. American newspapers, such as the famous New York Times, have reported this throughout the century and have reported on the changing status of American women.
