Regards croisés des orthophonistes et des médecins généralistes sur les soins du patient laryngectomisé

Abstract : Laryngectomised patients have to face many functional, psychological and physical difficulties throughout their treatment. Coordination between the professionals who are treating them is essential. The GP who refers the patient is responsible for the coordination of their care. The speech and language therapist provides care in the areas of communication, voice and swallowing. They also provide supportive care, perform technical procedures and may prescribe medical devices. We explored the care of speech and language therapists and general practitioners for laryngectomised patients and their coordination through the distribution of a questionnaire. This study revealed a lack of awareness of the field of speech and language therapy among general practitioners. It revealed disparities and some difficulties in the care of laryngectomised patients by speech and language therapists, due to the absence of a dedicated reference framework. The lack of patient-friendly coordination between the two professions was also highlighted. The creation of guidelines specifying speech and language therapy procedures for laryngectomised patients and an information leaflet for general practitioners on these procedures could help to improve inter-professional coordination and, above all, the quality of care provided to the patient.
