Acquisition d’une langue seconde et apprentissage de la lecture : l’évolution du répertoire verbal d’enfants de 6 à 8 ans

Abstract : The purpose of this research was to understand the links that could be established between the learning of French as a second language by newly arrived allophone pupils and their learning of reading from the first days of school. The aim was to observe the tipping point between the vision of a language barrier as an obstacle to learning and the consideration of an emerging bilingualism as a springboard for the development of new skills. In the context of this dissertation, comprehensive interviews made it possible to collect qualitative data directly from children in schools; these data were supplemented by classroom observation sessions and a documentary collection from teachers. Finally, by focusing on the respective places of family and school in the children's daily lives, this work has made it possible to highlight the influence of the language environment on the development of the children's verbal repertoire.
