Hémianopsie latérale homonyme : effets d’une rééducation par stimulation du champ visuel aveugle

Abstract : Introduction: Homonymous hemianopia (HH) is an amputation of the contralesional visual field. This vision loss often occurs after a stroke. Previous studies have shown that training in the blind visual field allows, by stimulating residual visual capacities (blindsight), an increase in visual sensitivity. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of such training on the patients' vision and on their autonomy in daily life, by introducing a control group to evaluate the effectiveness of the rehabilitation.
Method: There were six patients in the immediate group and three in the delayed group. The immediate group started rehabilitation without delay, while the delayed group had a three-month period without rehabilitation before starting the program. Patient progress was measured using Humphrey 24-2 automated perimetry. Patients also completed a vision questionnaire for activities ofdaily living.
Results: Statistical analysis did not show a significant effect of the rehabilitation, even if a slight improvement was observed at the perimetry for the immediate group, and seven patients out of the eight questioned reported an improvement in daily life.
Conclusion: This study does not allow us to affirm that the training allowed an improvement of the vision’s patients, but taking into account the methodological biases and the reduced size of the samples, it would gain to be reconducted to bring a clear answer to our problem.
