Validation de deux tâches nouvelles pour évaluer les fonctions exécutives auprès de sujets traumatisés crâniens

Abstract : Background : Executive functions disorders are frequent after traumatic brain injury. Patients have significant difficulties in daily life, and particularly when they must deal with a new situation. Consequently, the assessment of executive functions is essential, but, sometimes not easy to realise due to pitfalls of current tests.
Aim : To validate an assessment tool for executive functions sensitive, usable in clinical practice, and involving the novelty criterion so essential to executive control’s intervention. This tool includes two tasks, making possible the reevaluation of patient’s ability to manage the novelty.
Method : We have administrated the two novels tasks and current tests to 8 patients, in order to compare their results. We also have selected 8 control subjects to form two matched groups and compare the results of patients and control subjects.
Results : Patients’ results are significantly inferiors to those of control subjects, for raw scores and success scores. No correlation was found, neither between the two novels tasks, neither with the current tests.
Conclusion : The difference in levels of difficulty and novelty of tasks, as well as the intervention of non-executive processes in the tests could explain these results. However, the study is encouraging: the sensitivity of our tool is validated, and the Chocolate task reflects the disability felt by patients in daily life. Some avenues have been identified to improve the tool in futures studies.
