Prise en charge bucco-dentaire des personnes âgées dépendantes en Nouvelle-Aquitaine, état des lieux et perspectives d’actions

Abstract : The increasing number of elderly people in France in an already difficult context for elderly nursing home people (EHPAD) will accentuate the issue with the lack of access to oral health care for these populations. Indeed, despite the screenings carried out, the recourse to curative actions is low whereas infectious pathologies, undernutrition, and the reduction in social relations are particularly important for this fragile population. In the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, establishments describe four obstacles to this care: the transportation to a practice, the logistics of monitoring and organization of care with limited human resources, a lack of identification of patient needs and the care rejection by family or residents due to its costs. Most of the nursing home are in favor of putting in place solutions to improve this care and even more so if help is provided to them to avoid an excessive increase in their management load.
