Influence de la position mandibulaire sur la vitesse du membre supérieur et la précision chez l'escrimeur: mise en place d’un protocole de recherche clinique

Abstract : Since the 1970s, the link between mandibular position and sports performance has been debated. Today, the research of excellence in high level athletes pushes them to optimize their performances, in particular through external devices that can develop an ergogenic effect. Custom-made or commercially available intra-oral occlusal repositioning devices could therefore become an integral part of sports practice. This thesis documents the influence of mandibular position on upper limb speed and accuracy in fencing. Fencing is a sport of reactivity, speed and precision that lends itself well to the analysis of these criteria. After a presentation of the bibliography devoted to the expected effects of wearing intra-oral devices in sports practice, in particular on the criteria of speed, strength, precision and the placebo effect, this work proposes a clinical research protocol and a presentation of the expected results. The first objective of this protocol is to study the influence of the mandibular position on the speed of arm extension in fencers. The other objective is to study the accuracy of the fencer and the development of a possible placebo effect. The last part of this work is dedicated to the difficulties related to the development of this protocol.
