L’intérêt de la vibration corps entier associée au renforcement musculaire versus renforcement musculaire conventionnel dans la prise en charge de l’arthrose du genou

Abstract : Introduction: Gonarthrosis is a public health issue, currently affecting approximately 2 million people. It can become very disabling, causing pain and reduced mobility. One of the pillars of the management of gonarthrosis is muscle strengthening, and this is where whole body vibration (WBV) comes into its own. WBVs are used to improve neuromuscular function in patients with neurological disorders or in people with limited exercise possibilities. This could therefore be an effective alternative treatment for people suffering from osteoarthritis. Objectives: The aim of this review is to evaluate the functional, muscular and pain benefits of using vibration compared to conventional strengthening in people with OA. Methodology : A literature search was conducted on various databases: Pubmed, PEDro, Cochrane, Google Scholar and ClinicalTrial.org using a search equation based on the PICO model, following eligibility criteria. This selection yielded 5 randomised clinical trials, which were assessed for methodological quality using the PEDro scale. Results: Overall, whole-body vibration (WBV) showed better results in improving extensor muscle strength than non-vibration strengthening. However, regarding functional capacity, only 3 studies showed the benefit of vibration and only one for pain reduction. Conclusion: Despite the small number of studies, this review shows that the use of whole body vibration (WBV) is superior to standard strengthening on certain criteria such as muscle strength. However, in terms of the cost/benefit ratio, it is not of major interest.
