Intérêt du renforcement musculaire dans le traitement du syndrome de l'épaule du nageur chez le nageur de haut niveau

Abstract : Background: The swimmer’s shoulder syndrom is a very common pathology among swimmers, especially high level swimmers. It’s caused by an inbalanced muscular ratio. Can we treat yhis syndrom by working on this inbalance ? Purpose: A group of swimmers performs muscular strenghtening exercises focused on external rotators combined to aquatic practise, while an other group which is similar from the start, keeps swimming regularly as usual. We want to know wether strenghtening exercises made the pathology’s symptoms decrease : pain, muscle inbalance and shoulder winding. Method: We choose five randomized control trials found on Pubmed and Cochrane databases, each one of them studying high level swimmers affected by at least one symptom of the pathology. We choose PEDro scale to analyze the methodology of these studies. Results: Analytical strenghtening might decrease muscular inbalance between external and internal rotators, while fonctional strenghtening might decrease pain and shoulder winding. Discussion: Because of the heterogeneous results and bias shown by PEDro scale, we can’t afford to affirm certainly that the treatment studied is efficient, although the results show improvements.
