État des lieux de l’intérêt porté au changement climatique dans le domaine de la santé et des pratiques mises en place chez les médecins généralistes de la région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Abstract : Intro: Climate change is considered by the WHO as the greatest threat to global health in the 21st century, and threatens to undermine the past 50 years of gains in public health. Despite general practitioners being at the front line for public health, only few studies have assessed their opinions about climate change and health. Objective: Describe the interest regarding climate change and health by GPs of the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region, and their roles, in the development of environmentally responsible practices, and in the awareness among patients. Méthods: A cross sectional descriptive observational study conducted by self-administered computerized questionnaire, distributed from May to June 2021 to GPs of the AuRA region. Results: Of the 343 particpants, 42,7% said they were relatively interested and 43,2% very or extremely interested in ecology in the health sector. 59,1% believed that GPs had an active role to play in the fight against the impacts of climate change on health. 26,6% considered that patient awareness of planetary health was one of the roles of the GPs. Some practices, such as selective sorting of waste or energy saving, were mainly achieved, others such as buying of eco-labeled-recyclable products, were poorly carried out. The main obstacles were a lack of time and a feeling of helplessness. Conclusion: The GPs who participated in the study showed an interest in the impact of climate change on health, but are still unsure of their role, especially in sensitizing patients to the fight for planetary health. It appears important to form GPs to this issue to be able to respond to the environmental and health challenges to come.
