Mise au sein précoce et douleur de la montée de lait chez les mères non allaitantes

Abstract : Introduction: Early initiation of breastfeeding involves presenting the breast to the newborn within an hour of birth. It allows a good initiation of breastfeeding but in recent years this practice has also been widely used among no-breastfeeding mothers. The rise of milk is hormone-dependent, and its intensity increases with stimulation of the areolo-nipple area. It is commonly believed that in the absence of nipple stimulation, the lactation is inhibited within a few weeks. Objectives: To evaluate the pain of the rise of milk and its experience in no-breastfeeding mothers who have had early initiation of breastfeeding. To study the characteristics of early initiation of breastfeeding. Methods: prospective, descriptive, and comparative study, between no-breastfeeding mothers and no-breastfeeding mothers with early initiation of breastfeeding. Study conducted at the maternity ward of Saint Joseph Hospital in Marseille. Results: The pain of milk rising was significantly more intense for women who had a breastfeeding early initiation, the experience was also more painful and the use of analgesics more important. An early initiation of breastfeeding that is described as embarrassing or painful is more likely to cause painful milk rising. Conclusion: Despite a stronger pain of the milk rise, the women were all satisfied to have been able to carry out this early initiation of breastfeeding.
