État des lieux sur la population pédiatrique, originaire de l’Océan Indien, ayant bénéficié d’un transfert en France métropolitaine au cours d’une prise en charge de pathologie hématologique ou oncologique

Abstract : Background : The Reunion Island is currently hosting the paediatric Onco-hematology reference centre in the Indian Ocean. It therefore welcomes patients from the Reunion Island but also patients from Mayotte and other children from neighbouring countries. Nevertheless, a quarter of this population will require a secondary medical transfer to Metropolitan France. Method : A retrospective, descriptive and mono-centric study achieved over 5 years (2015-2019), that include all children transferred to Metropolitan France. Results : 105 children were included in this study. Of those, 66 were from Reunion Island, 17 were from Mayotte and 22 were foreign nationals. Family difficulties are objectified for 25.71% of families. The language barrier remains important to integrate since 9.52% of these families do not speak French. Social difficulties are reported in 11.43% of the cases, in connection with the care for isolated minors mainly. Medical difficulties were found in 9.52% of medical records. Conclusion : Many difficulties arise in connection with a family and a societal breakdown caused by these transfer. Those differences and difficulties are important to describe to accompany the families and caregivers in this obligatory stage of the medical journey of those children from the Indian Ocean.
