Analyse des obstacles psychologiques et cognitifs à la mise en route puis au maintien d’une activité physique chez le patient diabétique de type 2

Abstract : Introduction: The WHO (World Health Organization) predict 550 million people with diabetes in 2025. There is interest in studying the motivations that lead a type 2 diabetic patient (T2DM) to renounce AP, since AP has a positive impact on the prevention of diabetes complications, and there is a reluctance to change behaviour in these patients and to maintain it. We asked ourselves whether there were psychological and cognitive factors that determine the initiation and maintenance of an AP. Method: this is a qualitative study, based on semi-structured interviews of T2DM patients, with a group of 12 people as heterogeneous as possible. Eligibility criteria: Patient with T2DM, between 40 and 80 years of age, without mental and physical disability. Recruitment was carried out with general practitioners and a relay informant from the RevesDiab network. Results: The thematic analysis of these 12 interviews highlighted 4 themes: social experience, feelings of vulnerability and helplessness, APA for a positive life experience, and management of the disease that influences PA. Conclusion: Isolation from PA, negative experience of PA when inappropriate, refers to a sense of vulnerability and helplessness due to age but also disease. These are psychological factors that negatively influence the maintenance of PA. This emotional experience can lead to depression and negatively influences the initiation of PA. The lack of knowledge of diabetic disease and the influence of PA on their disease conditions a state of passivity towards PA that inhibits the initiation of the PA.
