La prise en charge des accouchements extrahospitaliers par les sapeurs-pompiers lozériens

Abstract : Background: Extra-hospital’s birth isn’t ordinary in France. In Lozère, most of firefighters are volontaries, and are rarely exposed to this kind of situations. Training sessions are rare and there’s no expert midewife in the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) in Lozère. Objectives: This study is exploring firefighter’s experience of non-hospital delivery.The aim of this study is to know their training, knowledge and needs. And how and midwives can improve it. Methods: In this study qualitative, descriptive and interpretative, 11 firefighters are interviewed. Results: Most of firefighters are stressed in front of this situations. There is a lack of knowledge and practice in this domain. Conclusion: Midwife interventions with firefighter about the proceeding of delivery is helping them to feel more comfortable with extra-hospital’s birth. This collaboration helps firefighters in a material and psychological way. Phone calls or midewife’s presence during these situations could help them caring for mom to be during their labor.
