La consultation préconceptionnelle : état des lieux des connaissances et de la participation des femmes

Abstract : Introduction : The aim of the study was to estimate women’s knowledge regarding recommendations for preconception consultation and to evaluate the participation rate.
Population and method : An observational, descriptive and multi-centric study was carried out using a paper questionnaire. It was aimed at women of childbearing age who had given birth in Parisian maternity wards. It involved 255 women and took place from October 1st, 2020 to January 31st, 2021.
Results : It was found that 32.2% of the women surveyed knew preconception consultation and 23.9% of the women have stated that they had set out their pregnancy plan to a health professional during this consultation. Most women who did not participate (63.4%) said that they would have liked to have had this type of interview. Several factors influencing the knowledge and rate of participation of this consultation were brought to light (pregnancy plan has a positive impact on the knowledge of the consultation; primiparas and women with high level of schooling or with pathologies participate more frequently etc.)
Conclusion : Preconception consultation must be promoted so that women are aware of it and can participate. It is a major public health tool that is of great interest to women but in which they participate little by ignorance.
